If your business appears on LocalPage
LocalPage helps independent web designers find local businesses that could use a website, and make them a free preview. This page explains what we show about your business, where it comes from, and how to have it removed.
What we show, and where it comes from
Builders who use LocalPage can see your business’s public listing: its name, type of business, address, map location, phone number and listed website. This comes from Overture Maps, an open dataset of places built from public sources. We do not show it to the general public; only signed-in builders see it.
If you trade under your own name, some of this may be personal data. We use it because we and the builders have a legitimate interest in offering you website services, and it is limited to what is already public about your business.
Our website check
To tell whether a business already has a working website, LocalPage visits the web address a listing shows, like a normal browser, at most about once a month. Our checker identifies itself as LocalPageBot, follows your robots.txt rules, and reads only that one page. It records whether the site loads, uses a secure connection, works on phones, or is only a social media page. To stop it, add to your robots.txt:
User-agent: LocalPageBot Disallow: /
If someone made you a demo site
- A demo is a private preview made by an independent builder, not by LocalPage and not on behalf of your business. It shows who made it at the top of the page.
- Preview links expire after 7 days unless the builder extends them, and are hidden from search engines.
- Demos never include invented reviews, prices, awards or licences. Photos may be stock photos, which are credited on the page.
- If you are not interested, simply ignore it, or tell the builder. Nothing goes live without your agreement.
Your choices
You can ask us to stop showing your business to builders, or to access, correct or delete what we hold about it. Email [contact email] with your business name and address; we reply within one month, and removal requests are usually handled within a few days. You can also correct your listing at the source, through Overture Maps and the map services it draws on.
More detail is in our privacy policy. You can complain to the Latvian Data State Inspectorate (dvi.gov.lv) or the authority in your country.
